Event: Celebrate the power of joy

Fri, 9 December 2022, 18:00 – 23:00 GMT

198 Contemporary Arts and Learning 198 Railton Road London SE24 0JT

This gathering focuses on the power of enjoyment and celebration in our movements towards Black liberation. From the blues parties of the 80s, to Britain's rich history of soundsystem culture, to ballroom culture in contemporary times - how have spaces of enjoyment and release created containers of resistance? How can joy provide healing and belonging in a world where we are denied pleasure?

The event will start with a panel discussion featuring Nzinga Soundz, an African Caribbean female sound system established late 1980s in conversation with Baxsan Collective, a group of artists and community facilitators, creating connection, community and art through shared lived experiences.

The panel will be followed by an amazing line-up of DJs and refreshment, and an opportunity to connect with Black activists, organisers and campaigners.

This is a wheelchair accessible venue, please contact us before the 9th December if you have other accessibility needs.

Please take a COVID test before attending and do not attend if you test positive for COVID.

This is a free event for African, Afrodescendant and Black folk.
