WHAT WE DO

KIN is a new initiative aiming to bring Black activists and organisers together to explore the history of national and international social movements, to share organising practise and to contextualise what achieving collective liberation looks like within the UK.  Our next convening is taking place in Manchester, UK from Friday 18th to Sunday 10th October. Applications for this convening are now closed. To find out what went down in our inaugural 2018 convening, click here.
Why?
There needs to be an intervention into how we organise within blackness. Delving into the context within which Black people are fighting for justice we want to explore what  our history, present and future is in achieving liberation. What does Black liberation look like here in the UK? How is it unique and how does it compare to France, Brazil, Germany or the US? What is common in our struggle but not in our strategy? How are we coping as humans in an increasingly openly fascist world? These questions and more will be explored at the convening through screenings, workshops, talks, which will be ran by participants.  We see these 3 days as the opportunity for you and your organisation to discuss your work, meet other groups working on similar issues, network with Black organisers from different parts of the globe.

How?
We strongly believe in building community. The idea, physical space and feeling of community has been under attack for the past few decades. We believe having strong community breeds powerful action, which leads to meaningful change. KIN aims to bring together activists, organisers and campaigners to learn from each other and build meaningful relationships. We plan to do this through convenings, socials and online organising.  KIN was founded in 2017 by a collective of volunteer organisers based in the UK and US from groups including Black Lives Matter US, Take Back The City, Black Alliance for Just Immigration and Black Youth Project 100.
